Birds Hawaiʻi Past Present started on the Panaʻewa compound just outside of Hilo on the Island of Hawaiʻi. First as a Facebook page and then an Instagram, the goal of this endeavor has and always will be to normalize the birds of Hawaiʻi in the lives of people throughout the islands and across the world.

Hawaiian birds have experienced the highest rates of extinction of any other group of birds and continue to face alarming rates of decline throughout the main Hawaiian Islands. Many of these species now live in remote areas inaccessible to many, but through modern digital platforms they can become apart of your life through the lens of Birds Hawaiʻi Past Present.
