The Maunakea population of Hawaiʻi ʻElepaio live alongside palila in the high elevation māmane-naio forest. These special birds are fairly rare with only an estimated 2,000 of them surviving today. While not significantly different from other populations of Hawaiʻi ʻelepaio this population tends to be a little larger and is much less common. seeing young birds like this is always a good sign!
